Swiss-based Orpheus Laboratories is gaining
steam with their innovative range of slimline electronics. From the 6750 Zero
transport, 5500 One digital-to-analog converter, 7450 Two
multichannel preamplifier, to the 9500 /pair Three M mono amplifiers (and how
much do you want to bet there's a Four in the near future, too?), Orpheus components play
with remarkable fidelity. In Frankfurt they were mated with Ascendo's System Z
loudspeakers, priced at 16,900 per pair. Known as a company that is keen to
play most any type of music that showgoers want, the folks at Orpheus Labs slipped Ani
DiFranco's new Evolve CD into their Zero transport. When we were seated
dead-center in the sweet spot, the system produced a wall-to-wall soundstage, pinpoint
imaging, and crystal-clear sound. Flawless? Pretty darn close. |
