The Connoisseur SE-2 ($2390) is a 300B-based
remote-controlled stereo integrated amp that's proudly billed as "designed and
handcrafted in Canada." Rated power output is 9Wpc.

In the market for a serious CD-only transport?
Jadis' new Canadian distributor, Pierre Gabriel, displayed JD1 Pro Mk II ($25,000 CDN)
along with a very wide array of Jadis tube electronics.

The Braun LE1 ($7140/pair) sounded wonderful
with smaller-scale music -- as it should given its use of Quad electrostatic technology.

We named the Cayin 743D tube integrated amp a ShowStopper. But Cayin also does solid state. From left
to right is the 270PA 150Wpc stereo amp ($999) and 265-Ai integrated amp ($1399). Both
looked beefy.

The Musical Fidelity TriVista 300 integrated
amp ($8900 CAD) easily drove a pair of JMlab Mezzo Utopia speakers to very loud levels,
but we were surprised at the size of the unit's power supply, which is on the second
shelf. So much for an integrated amp taking up less space on your rack!

A blast from the past. Linar used a pair of
Wilson Audio WITT II speakers, long discontinued, to show off its electronics. The sound
in the small hotel room was heavy on the bass.

The Demidoff Signature Villa solid-state
integrated amp ($4995 CDN) uses an inductive power supply. |
