Digital Projection showed the same high-definition source material simultaneously on five large screens, each displayed with a different projector technology. This afforded a very interesting opportunity to compare all five images. The three top images were via single-chip DLP projectors, while the bottom two were from triple-chip projectors. The top-middle, top-right and bottom-right screens were projected at 720p, while the other two on the left were at 1080p. Of the 720p displays, the projector in the top middle had a regular lamp, while the other 720p projectors had double the lamp power.

Whew! That’s a lot to remember.

The amazing thing about the demonstration was not necessarily which was good or bad -- they all looked startlingly good and would be great in any home cinema – but, rather, how much of an improvement lamp power, 720p versus 1080p, and single chip versus triple chip make. The film clips used were outstanding, including a trailer for the new Martin Scorsese film The Departed. A great demonstration!
