As we mentioned in our ShowStoppers Series 1, we didn't take Haliaetus Technologies' 8000 € HA-325 Firebird speakers all that seriously when we first saw them. But when we peered into the small display room and saw the Nagra and C.E.C. electronics, we said to each other, "Maybe they are serious." So we sat down and listened and went away very surprised, and impressed.

The Firebirds seemed to reach quite deep into the bass region -- not subwoofer deep, but deep for a small two-way -- and they have "effortlessness" to their sound, even when pushed quite hard. They're not all boom and bluster; what impressed us most was the refinement they exhibited, particularly in the midrange and highs, and the spaciousness they achieved. Roger Kanno said when we left, "That system sounded better than the majority systems here." And that's exactly why we made them a Standout. Remember what they say about judging a loudspeaker by its cabinet!
