Sony's soon-to-be-available DVP-FX1 16:9 portable
DVD player, which will cost $1500.

Sony's new DAV-S300 "DVD Dream System" integrated home theater features 5.1
channels of surround sound with an integrated DVD player. The DAV-S300 has both Dolby
Digital and DTS decoders, an AM/FM tuner, and uses what Sony calls an "advanced
digital switching amplifier" to provide 180 watts of total system power. The DAV-S300
will be available in March with an estimated retail price of $599.

Wilson Audio unveiled the Series III iteration of the venerable X-1 Grand SLAMM speakers.
What's changed? The distortion spectrum of the tweeter has been reduced, and the uppermost
module of the speakers has been modified on its bottom corners to cut down on diffraction.
According to David Wilson, the new speakers "sound a little sweeter, warmer and
slightly more detailed." The price of the X-1 Grand SLAMM Series IIIs has risen to
$79,900 per pair.

Wilson Audio also had on musical display the new CUB Series II speakers ($7500 per pair)
and their matching stands ($2590 per pair) along with a full Nagra system and an Audio
Research CD2 CD player. The sound, even at very low volume, was impressive.

Finally, we just couldn't resist taking a shot of the immense Wilson XS subwoofer
($18,500 in laminate, $22,900 in any color). Marc Mickelson stands next to the XS to act
as a scale model (he's over six feet tall). SoundStager Jeff Fritz has one of these
700-pound monsters in for review right now.
