Halcro
Halcro produced fantastic multichannel sound
with a complex system consisting of five of its dm68 amplifiers ($19,000 each) and a dm10
preamplifier ($16,000). Wilson Audio Specialties MAXX loudspeakers ($38,900/pair), Wilson
Sophia surrounds ($11,700/pair), a Wilson WATCH center-channel speaker ($5200),
Transparent Audio cables and power products, a Nagra DII digital recorder, a Philips SACD
1000 player (modified by Ed Meitner), a Metronome Technologie T1 CD player ($6000),
emmLabs DAC-6 ($6500) and a Switchman six-channel preamp ($3700) rounded out the system.
The sound in this room was both impactful and delicate -- with combinations of both
depending on source material. The two-channel cuts, including several from Paul Simon,
were smooth and imaged beautifully.
