Sunday, January 11 -- Part 2

Final Sound displayed the Model 80
surround-sound system, a 5.1-channel setup that includes wall-mounted speaker panels
(shown left above) for the main and surround locations and a horizontal center-channel
version of the same speaker. Also included in the system is a 6" subwoofer. The
entire "kit" is available for $1999.

It's hard to tell from the picture, but the
Rockport Technologies Mira is a three way speaker using a side-firing woofer. The Mira
costs $13,500 per pair.

Sometimes a big speaker needs a big amp. In
this case, the Sound Lab Ultimate U-1 ($29,700 per pair) was driven by a Vitus Audio
SM-100 mono amp ($45,000 per pair), which lists among its features switchable
class-A/class-AB operation.

Virtual Dynamics presented their entire range
of cables, starting with the entry-level David series interconnects, power cords, and
speaker cables (left); extending to the Nite series (center); then finally to the
top-of-the-line Master series (right). Prices range from $600 for a one-meter pair of
David interconnects to $3100 for a six-foot pair of Master speaker cables. [www.virtualdynamics.com]

Wavelength Audio's newest amplifier is the
Signature 45 stereo model ($25,000), which uses a bevy of audiophile-approved parts. It
sounded very detailed driving Cain & Cain speakers.
