Hsu Research defined high-value home theater
with the Ventriloquist system. The speaker system consists of five 2 1/2" full-range
satellites, a three-driver two-way center-channel speaker, and an 8" powered
subwoofer. The center-channel is unique in that it augments the bass response of the main
speakers, acting as a second subwoofer. The result was outstanding -- none of the
hole-in-the-middle sound some sub/sat systems exhibit. With clear vocals, and a punchy,
dynamic quality, the soundtracks played came alive. The best part is the cost of the full
Hsu 6.1-channel system: only $499. When paired with an Onkyo TX-SR501 receiver, a KLH
KD-1220 DVD player, and Home Depot wiring, the entire system's price tag was just shy of
$800.
