Britain’s PMC (Professional Monitor
Company) featured the GB1 in its show system. This is a compact, two-way, floorstanding,
transmission-line speaker priced at $1999. It was driven by a pair of Parasound JC1
monoblock amplifiers ($6000 per pair), an Audio Research LS25 Mk II preamplifier ($5495),
and an Audio Research CD3 Mk II CD player ($5495). Cabling was from Kubala-Sosna. Even
though the speakers were in a small room and placed relatively closely together, the
soundstage was immense, with a great sense of both height and depth, and extremely precise
imaging. There was also plenty of surprisingly low bass and impressive dynamics for such a
diminutive speaker.
