Threshold Audio used just two channels of the new S/3700e
multichannel amplifier ($3500 in the five-channel configuration, additional channels $500
each) to demonstrate the amp's fidelity in a stereo setting. With the Stasis-R 3.0
preamplifier ($3500) and a Sony NS999ES CD/DVD player up front, and the Alon Lotus Elite
speakers at the other end of the chain, the sound was remarkable -- clean, clear and
spacious -- and the soundstaging was vivid, with an uncanny sense of depth. Doug
Schneider, normally a minimonitor guy, greatly enjoyed this system based on largish
